Qualities of a good radio program
So, as a good radio station, you have to provide listeners with information that is relevant to them. As mentioned, stations do not only play music or advertise products and services. They are more of being informative, active and responsive. Important information are given emphasize so listeners can actively participate in the world they live in.
Some variations include liberal talk, educational talk, conservative talk, sports talk, hot talk, etc. They do the talking, be it news, jokes, conducting interviews or taking call. And as a presenter, one needs to identify with all listeners. No one wants to sit and listen to a monotone host who sounds like he or she would rather be somewhere else other than hosting their own show. Listen to some of your favourite hosts.

A good PD teaches his air staff to respect the audience. He teaches them how to talk to listeners on the phone and at personal appearances. He never speaks disparagingly of listeners, because he knows the air staff will follow his example. A good PD becomes an expert in the community her station serves.
A good PD does not allow anyone else to mess with her air talents. Station manager is offended by something a jock said? Tell it to the PD, not to the jock. Salesperson got a complaint from a client about something happened on-air? Take it to the PD, not to the jock. A good PD is consistent in his approach to programming and in his style of interacting with air talents. A good PD understands that all air talents are eager for feedback.
A good PD regularly schedules aircheck critique sessions with all on-air people — including part-timers. A good PD expects each air personality to be better today than he or she was six months ago. A good PD is a seer.
Rarely is he surprised by a major shift in listener attitudes, because he pays more attention to his listeners than he does to other radio or record industry people. Or more precisely — a multimedia personality.

On the radio, the unnatural behaviour of the presenter is more easily noticed than in other media. But, again, that naturalness is learned. Listen to some radio stations like Chillout Radio. It all sounds so spontaneous and easy. But not many people know how much of a hard work this requires.
But also, sometimes, you have to know how to act for an advertisement, for a sketch, for a phone call, etc. Then, you have to act that you are extremely interested in them. Your country is playing a game and you have absolutely no information about it in the program?! Or, when the whole world was talking about rescuing a boy from a cave in Thailand.
So you have to know where to find good information, and you have to know how to present them to your listeners.
