Silverline windows j channel
Dane - Site Editor - from [Arthur's reply] Dane, thank you. That is what I suspected, but it was bringing us further above our budget. I ended up with somewhat of compromise cost between those options, as the Window installer has a single Vytex Fortis window that was no needed on another project and gathering dust, which was the right size, pattern, and had the tempered glass needed for one location, and would do the Sunrise windows for the other 9.
The price was for whatever is just below the "Restorations" line, with the Ultra U Plus. Yeah, it took a little negotiating and collecting about 5 quotes to get focused in. Are there any big differences between the "Restorations" line and their other offerings? Visually, to me they looked pretty similar except for the locking mechanisms. Zip code is for your market research. Arthur - Homeowner - from [Site Editor's Answer] The Sunrise Restorations is their standard Sunrise window frame with some nice additional features, including a reinforced fibercore meeting rail and vertical sash, Max Edge spacer, foam filled chambers, tilt sash mechanism and high transparency screen.
The Sunrise is a very good window, the Restorations is just a step above. Price you were quoted sounds VERY good. Dane - Site Editor - from Silverline Windows Reviews The Silverline vinyl window comes standard as a single hung and offers the following performance numbers assuming the upgrade to the low e2 glass - AI 0. Despite energy saving measures such as foam insulating sill boxes in the basement, sealing exterior doors, etc, the first floor of our home is drafty along the floor and uncomfortable to sit near windows in the winter.
We're trying to decide if we should spend the money to replace our windows. Our home is 4 years old and the builder tells us these are "energy efficient premium" windows. Thank you. Yello - Homeowner - from [Site Editor's Answer] Yello, the Silverline series would not come standard with the foam enhanced frame. You could order that as an upgraded feature. I've never heard anyone refer to anything that Silverline put out as an energy efficient premium window, but those are easily thrown around terms.
In general, Silver Line is a builder grade window, not a quality window at all. I would have hoped you wouldn't have to replace your windows after only four years though. The CR or condensation rating of the window is probably not all that good. Here is an article that might help.
The Silverline is not a good window, definitely not a fan. Miller - Homeowner - from [Contractor Response] The Silverline and Excalibur aren't as good as the other two, I would eliminate them right away. The Simonton is average , and the PGT is pretty nice, a 4" frame and exterior flange. I sell more of them than anything else.
Dan - Installer - from Read more Simonton windows reviews. It offers okay performance numbers - DP45 and U-value 0. The window includes dual weatherstripping, a tilt in sash, a constance force balance system and comes standard with the Super Spacer. He said that argon gas is a marketing gimmick which made me have doubts about his credibility. He's an Andersen dealer that is trying to push that line. Simonton might be the best way to go. What are your thoughts between Simonton and PGT ?
Thanks in advance and I truly appreciate your insight! The Andersen Silverline windows are not good quality products. Andersen bought Silverline, which has always been considered a cheaply built product. I would choose the company who you feel will do the best installation job and will stand behind their work if issues do arise in the future. Good luck and congrats on whichever one you select. Tim - Site Editor - from Silverline Series Options Hi, my husband and I are looking to replace ten windows in our home and the contractor is talking up the Silverline series.
Joni - Homeowner - from [Site Editor's Answer] Hi Joni, usually on this site i recommend to most homeowners that they go with a mid range vinyl window from a credible and known manufacturer. However, if you are leaving your home in five years, you don't have to worry too much about the quality of the windows. However, you still want to get good installation because slip shod work could get you some real headaches come winter. Here are some windows that you could consider. I would probably sneak the Silverline series in that list, although the would be my preference when it comes to the Silverline.
If you are buying from the big box stores, go in and talk to the guys working the windows section and ask them what their favorite window is and what they would put in their house.
Then go find your own installer with good references and experience. We had 28 of them, double hung , low-e coating, argon filled, all the extra features. The salesman said they were the best vinyl windows on the market , we didn't pick them because they were cheap. Within just a few years, we started having trouble. We started replacing sashes almost right away. They have a rubber seal that keeps the argon gas in and they leak and make the glass streaky.
Also, the plastic pieces that keep them in their track get dry and brittle and start to break. I will admit that they honor the warranty , but they do it stupidly. They won't replace the upper and lower sash together, but only one at a time.
So they all fit poorly and we now have tons of drafts and upper sashes that won't stay up. I've talked to customer service a hundred times at least. I'm about to give up and I've started looking at windows to just replace these. If it was cheap, it wouldn't be too bad, because some people want a cheap window. But they are priced like a good window.
I'd look at Softlite of Gorells. The second company, a local contractor quoted us Norandex extreme sliders , with the exception of the front window would have double hungs on both sides again do to the size. Also low e3, argon filled. So I think I am down to the other 2 and not sure if you believe one would out perform the other.
Or should we keep looking and get another quote. We live in Michigan. Thanks for any help and your time. Eric - Homeowner - from [Site Editor's Answer] Eric, I have to agree with you that Silverline is not a high quality window, despite the Andersen window name attached to it. I would not feel comfortable putting those in my own home and would have concerns that issues would arise beginning in that 6 to 7 year mark.
The Norandex Extreme window is actually a rebranded Atrium window. Atrium windows are okay, but they aren't the greatest windows out there. I would put Amcraft in that same general category as well. Kind of in that lower end of the mid range of vinyl windows.
I would get another bid or two if I were you. See if you can get a bid from a Simonton dealer on either the Impressions Series, the Reflections or Prism series.
Also Wallside windows is local to Michigan and I think they offer a good mid range vinyl window that will be higher in price than the Norandex, but should offer some better long term value than the choices you currently have.
It boils down to this -- I hear from lots of consumers that their Atrium windows have done a good job for them and they are in year 15, but I also hear from others who begin to have issues with seal failure etc. We decided to go with Wallside. A few people I work with said they have been happy with windows from them.
None who have had them installed are all that old, so longevity wise hopefully we get a good number of years out of them. I called Wallside and they came the next day to give us a quote. No pressure sales tactics which I was kinda preparing for. He did show us a sample window, only salesman out of the 3 who did. The only thing I would say they try to trip you up with is quoting a cash or financing price.
