Yamaha r1 black edition 2007
Buying experience: Got mine stupidly cheap due to a friend in the trade who made me an offer I couldn't refuse on one of my dream bikes. Got an R6 and part ex'ed my bandit for a brand new R1. Its my first litre sports bike, and it really is'nt as scary as you'd think But to be honest, I really miss the low down torque of me old bandit and the R1 just does'nt have it, maybe i'm expecting too much here.
Basically, performance and handling are great, looks stunning too, great value, everything you could wish for in a sports bike, just like an R6 but more! I never really bonded with this bike. To make this easier to read I'll summarise: Background: I owned an 08 R1 from new and just sold it last month with 4k miles on it. I took it on 4 track days. I took my wife pillion a few times and used it for the supermarket too. Mods: Screen, sliders, Michelin 2CTs, suspension set-up for me.
Pros: - Amazing power up top. I don't understand why anyone would need more power from one of these. Highly recommended. Cons: - Not as much toruqe in the mid-range as everyone says. What steering damper did NOTHING , hard to get at battery, kickstand bad angle , clip-ons bad for wrists compared to Fireblade , seat angles both seats push you forwards unless at high speed. I don't want to groan too much, but that last point there is the reason I sold the bike - that's how bad the riding position was at low speeds.
I've had 2 Yamahas and 2 Hondas. It's to the Hondas. I bought a new R1 in early and I've now clocked up 20 miles and do a minimum of miles commuting to work every week here in Gibraltar. The riding position is very comfortable and you can cover long distances easily without numb butt cheeks and aching wrists. This bike has a split personality. It can be the sensible tourer or by a twist of the wrist and some fast bends it makes you feel like an adrenalin fuelled racing god.
And the noise of those under seat exhausts and the backfire-rumbling on deceleration still makes me smile like a kid. For a modern sportsbike I find this unacceptable and I live in Gibraltar where the weather is lovely all year round so if you live in UK be prepared to change these a few times a year.
I have been riding for over 25 years have part-ex'd my SP1 for an 07 R1 in white and red. It is standard with miles on the clock and looks stunning. On the road it is a peach to ride, comfy, smooth with great controls and power. I am 6' tall and fit it really nicely. We did a mile trip and had no discomfort problems. I have been on track at Mallory and Donington twice. Once the suspension had been tweaked the handling is smooth and sure with excellent ground clearance, awesome power, suberb brakes and she sounds andf looks fantastic!!
Sorry I'm a bit gushy but I love the Yam!! It's the best looking Jap bike out there and up with the Ducatis on looks as well Must dash gotta ride! I had the choice of getting this bike for in december of 08 in red and white, or waiting for an 09, i came to the conclusion that i'm not the fastest of riders and won't get the best out of either of these bikes so i went for the better looking one, which the 08 wins every time.
Until yamaha sort out the 09's front end. It feels like the same bike but different, which obviously makes no sense. It is roomy for my 5'9" frame, the head lights are brilliant. No trades. Serious Inquiries Only Please. Ive taken very good care of my bike, it is very clean and has been garage stored and covered. Details:Miles: 20,, Tires: above average condition, Oil: has another miles Motul v Synthetic Filter has been cleaned. I have my Yamaha R1 Raven Edition for sale.
This bike is in great condition. I'm selling because we are saving to buy a house. The bike has almost 17, miles. All maintenance has been done this year. Coolant, oil, chain has been lubricated every miles. It runs great and is very fast. It has some aftermarket parts. Stainless steel header, carbon fiber Yoshi exhaust, adjustable levers, flush mount undertail and turn signals, smoked tail light, HID headlights and led marker lights.
This bike has been well taken care of. Wish I didn't have to sell. Test rides with cash and valid motorcycle license. Need this bike gone! Model Yzf R1. One of the sickest bikes on the road! What you have here is a sleek all blacked out R1 Raven with a clean title; I own the bike outright. When I say it's all blacked out, I mean literally.
Down to the finest detail. Even the forks were changed from the OEM gold ones to black. No detail or expense has been spared. Over 5k has been spent making this bike the sexy beast that it is. It's set up to perform, looks sweet and sounds amazing! The exhaust system really is awesome! This bike is a sleeper too; probably one of the fastest 1,s on the street. I'm the second owner; the first was a great friend of mine. You cannot get a better bike than this for the 4k mark and to top it you need to spend around 6k like I did.
You could get the same year fireblade but its a bit boring and ugly in comparison After riding newer bikes and getting back on it, it did feel a little bit manual and slightly hard to turn but very sturdy and the build quality is amazing.
I can't stress enough if your budget is in and around the 4k mark look no further. Have had 10 months now and covered about 7K and 7 thousand happy miles they have been. Gearbox is a little cluncky and you do get the odd false neutral especially when upshifting when gunning it. Guess I was spoilt with suzi gearboxes for to long!
Other than she's a beauty and a beast I was reserved about owning one,but looks and performance you can,t fault it. I havn,t ridden every bike but the R1 has that sublime don,t mess with me look and feeling about it.
I had a R1 purchased brand new at launch. Was first Jap cc has had V-twins before. Have to say it was a good bike, but was not impressed with the build qaulity Panels were too flimsy and felt cheap. Was forever fighting to keep the front down when nailing it. Bike looked good though. Until I binned it at 12 weeks old, resulting in it being a write off as plastics just fell apart and forks bent. Went a gixer K4 after and that felt loads better as was solid build quality and much more useable.
Thats it the 04 R1 is nice. An R1 should not be nice. I had a 98 model that was wicked, in all senses of the word. My 04 was nice. I toured long distances- covered 20, miles im less than two years.
No where near as grunty as the 98 but faster and easier to ride. The only bad bit is that tyre choice is critical. Get the wrong ones Corsa III and the steering gets very very heavy at low speed and the back end slides into corners. Just chopped it in for a new one - much better. This one has got the fire back. It took Yamaha 9 years repeat the feeling of the original R1 but they have got it just about right. A month later i went over to France on it. Build quality is excellent and the feel good factor it gives me every time i ride has been worth every penny, with more than enough performance for any average road rider and after all looking good is part of riding this type of hypersports bike and this R1 has got what it takes!
The R1 has to be the best litre bike you can buy for the road. Having access to fireblades, gixers and a ZX10, the R1 simply blows me away with its ability. The riding position is superb. If you found a blade uncomfortable, then try one of these. Its also the best looking superbike out there. The downside is that the clutch plates fused together and needed soaking over night, and the bike plays up in hot weather especially around town. The gear change can be a little clunky at times also.
People have moaned about the lack of torque with this incarnation of the R1, I found it helps when putting the power down out of corners. Strengths: Looks, handling, riding position, comfort. Build quality. Parts available. Weaknesses: Tyre wear, gear selection, bikes popularity. Traded in by blade for the R1 - The R1 is better built in terms of quality and feels better to ride. Only issue I have has is with vibration early on and this went after about 1, miles. Better than the blade around town, but not as good on the track for me anyway - less stability at the front.
Strengths: Looks, build quality and it's high rev grin factor. Weaknesses: Still vibrates more than a honda between 3 and 5 K. Having just moved from an Aprilia RSV Mille I have to say that the one thing that I notice most is the real lack of performance at lower revs.
The Mille would just leave it standing. Strengths: Looks, sound of exhaust, weight, higher rev performance. Weaknesses: Really weak performance at lower revs, poorly positioned foot pegs, they are exactly in the path of where my legs want to be when stationary on the bike. Non adjustable clutch lever. Clunky gear box. I had reservations about taking on BHP, I needn't have as unless you are a freakin nut case it is a pretty docile bike.
Set the rev warning light to 6k revs and change up when you see it. Even limiting the revs to 6k this bike is awesome, the low down grunt is exceptional and for most riding you can keep it in 6th, it really is that good.
The "turn in" is true sports bike, a gentle nudge and it simply goes where you point it. The instruments are clear and concise and the switches intuitive and easy to use with a firm feel.
I traded up from a CBR and for the first mile of riding I couldn't stop thinking what have I done! The riding position can only be described as "tough", tough on the neck, the wrists and the back.
It's only above 50 mph that the airflow lifts your body up in to a comfortable position and takes some of the strain away.
